Click for big versions. Grumpy snailies first. Me: "Love, give me a snaily smile for this pic." Snail: "NO." Somehow, Gaius has turned his sleeping cave's opening so that it's actually against the glass. Privacy guaranteed! Grey Nose bathing grumpily. Zorst is this what Marrow does?

I took Iisakki (white Margie on the right), Gaius the big guy, and a baby albino tiger out of the tank for egg and pictures. The baby tiger wasn't very interested in eating, he just wanted to explore Gaius's shell. The baby rasped me when I put my hand near him. Then I held Gaius on my hand, which made him very confused. I also petted him and he got aroused. No pics of that though!

For a few minutes I was busy with Gaius, and when I looked back at the table, Iisakki had gotten into an adventurous mood and found a Magical Source of Egg (the cup that I use for microwaving it). So sneaky, but nothing wrong with it as it was all going to be snail food anyway, so I just laughed, took pics and let him take as much as he wanted. Someone else is really, really into green beans!

Ha ha Etana hun, that is a really grumpy face if ever I saw one. The other photos are really lovely, isn't it great when a snaily rasps you, I am sure it is love and affection and their way of showing it? Ours love green beans too and quite a bit of today's eggie has gone down well also. the never seem to eat it all though and I am wondering if I am doing too much giving them two eggs. These photos are adorable hunni, thank you so much for sharing them with us. Would you mind if I bookmarked them, they are so cute?

Thank you so much Jo. Of course you can bookmark them or do what you wish (as long as you mention I took the pics, if you use them somehow). Unless there's one whole egg of leftover it's probably not too much, offering a bit more than they will eat is after all a guarantee that everyone gets their share. My snails sometimes get picky and leave the white uneaten, sometimes they eat that as well. I love the gentle rasps. It might be a bit of grooming/affection as snails seem to clean each others' skin sometimes, or maybe getting to know us by tasting us a little. Either way it's sweet when a little snail does it. Big snails have such strong mouths that it gets a bit weird, haha.

Of course I would Etana love but I only want them at look at as they are so lovely. When you say your snailies leave the white, the way I do their egg it is all scrambled in together, am I doing something wrong? I like to give plenty and spread it about so that the tinies get a chance of an eat also. I hope the raps are affection in the same way it is when certain types of lizard lick you, they are tasting you so they know you for the future and i wonder if it is the same with snailies. Ah no you're not doing it wrong, I'm just lazy, lol. Oh that would be a lovely explanation for the gentlest rasps. How I'd like to see into the snaily mind! (Though whenever I say that out loud, I get told they probably think of "orange poop tastes good, ummm, yellow poop tastes better", especially when they look particularly thoughtful. )

:DThat is a very good point Etana love, I really did not want to find orange poop appetizing and that is what it would mean if we did a bit of a mind meld LOL! Actually I wonder which they do prefer, I suppose each snailie is different and like us have different opinions on things including the taste of poop. What am I going on about here, sorry LOL? I like to think it is affection when they give you a little rasp but I do think it is possible that they do it so they can remember you, as lizards do. When you think about it, it is the only way they have of remembering you because I don't suppose their eye sight is that good.

hahahaha yes...I do think you're right and different snails like different poops. Egg poop is very popular though, I almost never get any to collect as they fight over who gets to eat it. Also my Tiger snail tank never needs much poop collecting done at all - the Tigers are known for eating rotten stuff and poop in the home jungle, and they definitely do that in captivity as well! LOL yes it's a mix of gross and funny, but snails don't have a problem with it (quite the opposite lol), we don't need to either. Yeah, I too don't think eyesight is their primary way of recognising. Smell might be a helpful one though. I always stop to marvel at little snail trails gone straight across the street because something smells good on the other side. I don't know whether they primarily smell or taste (or both) their friends' snail trails to find them but they do follow them as well.

OHHHH Yes that's def a baby version of one of the Great snail Godfather Marrow's faces. LOL!
Brilliant pic n well done for catching it, I also love the magical supply of egg one and the egg Thief as well as the one with the green bean, the mixed look of bliss and concentration in that one is great.
Def egg poop is very hard to find it gets eaten real quick here, just because we think its not nice doesn't mean the snails do they seem to think its gourmet food. EWE!
Jo, If it helps I give my snails either hard boiled eggs mashed up or scrambled eggs, they love it either way but will go for the yolk first in the hard boiled egg if they aren't so hungry and will leave the whites.

Yes I think that egg poop is a favourite for mine too Etana love and yes, it is a mixture of gross and funny. If you love snailies as we do, we just accept it even though it is so alien to us. You are right love, we can't have a problem with it because that is just what they are and they are adorable. I too love to see trail snails and always hope that the little snailie found something good and it was worth his journey. Thanks Zorst for that tip honey, I never thought of giving them hard boiled eggs. I can understand that the yolk would go first however, it is with me if I have a fried egg LOL!!

Lol Zorst, indeed I walked past the tank and had to look again - "Ooooo grumpy bathing, where's my camera!" and then just hoped that the doors wouldn't be too mucky so I get a good pic, as opening the doors would have disturbed his grumpiness LOL. Hehe yes they sure have very strange ideas about what's gourmet. Then again they probably think the same of us, as we enjoy our raw onions and salty & spicy foods lol. Then again poop is also health food for them as it helps their gut functions, and they have the luck of really liking the stuff that's good for them, even if it happens to be poop, hahah! How often do humans complain that the healthy stuff is boring?! About snail trails btw, the thumb tip sized Arianta arbustorum has been observed to go up to fifteen meters during the night if he smells good food, and back the next night! That's a darn long way for a little snail to crawl.

You are right Etana love, there is nothing I love more than a spicy curry and I know a lot of people do. It would seem very strange to a snaily. They are not the only ones who do it though, I have a bunny and guinea pigs and they are also required to eat their own poops for a healthy gut. Oh yes, that is a very long distance for a little snaily to go especially as they can hardly run all the way LOL!!

Maija (at the front): "Mauno, I think we need to talk. The heron's still not visiting us and it's making me wonder what's wrong." Mauno, at the back, needs more time to think this through. He must think this through carefully. Very, very carefully. Attachments:
