I got an early Christmas present, in the form of my boyfriend encouraging me to buy myself a new snail (wait... Well yes, it's still a present ). He is a dark footed tiger snail, he is very small, and he is called Montezuma, because one day he will be big and scary. Or maybe just big and lazy. This will be his own photo thread. So far he's been so fast, I've not captured any good ones. He's just like how Gaius used to be at that size, really curious and positive. Except last time I saw him, he'd sealed his little shell shut. No surprise, as it's been a lot to take in for a little snail.

Oh Etana love, I cannot think of a better present. He sounds adorable and we hope to see piccies of him soon. I hope you have told him that he already has his own thread, that will make him feel more loved than ever. Bless him, he has literally gone into his little shell hasn't he? As you say hunni, he is probably totally overwhelmed at the moment although I wish I had a shell I could disappear into LOL! Please do keep us posted. Hugs JO xx

Here he is. Click for big version. He is having eggplant, quite likely for the first time in his life. He was cautious at first but then he took a bite and didn't regret it. I left it on top of the opened door and took the pics. I swear it's regular slightly rotten eggplant, the flash made it look strange. He has turned from hiding shyly to running all around the tank and patting eyes with his new tank mates. He's so funny and sweet. He is learning to move to the tank ceiling from the front door. Meanwhile, Gaius is still wanting to find a position that requires the least movement to food and water.

He is just adorable Etana love and he is obviously going to be a greedy little snaily who enjoys eating. There is nothing I like more than to watch them enjoy their food.
I am glad he has found his foot so to speak and is running around making friends with everyone. He sounds very happy with his new family. I have a couple of lazy people in my tank Etana hunni who will stretch to their utmost to reach food without having to move. Thanks for the update sweetie.

Haha yes, I know and love to see the mega stretching, it looks like it can't be comfortable but their faces are so happy when they reach the food that way! I just really hope all goes well, but it looks promising as he has even started to grow his shell again already (they often stop for a moment when there's major stress).

That is true Etana love, you can almost see a smile on their little faces. I am glad all is going well and he has started shell regrowth. It makes sense that it stops if they have a bit of a shock. Thanks for the updates sweetie, I feel as if I know this little chap so well already.

Here he's doing some shell maintenance, and you can see the new growth. I actually just captured a mega stretchy snail too, I'll post it in the snaily moments thread if my phone lets me (if it doesn't, I'll use the computer but that'll take a bit).

I am proud to report that Montezuma has started a growth spurt. There's already 1cm (half an inch) of new shell on him, and his foot is of course also growing accordingly! My last albino tiger snail (the only one of the original 10 who has survived to this day) seems very excited about little Montezuma. A bit too excited even, he follows his snail trails around with his cheek bulging, as though he's telling the baby that he can't wait for him to get bigger. Gaius the big guy seems indifferent so far, enjoying his food and sleep as before.

Montezuma's revenge! 🤣 Sorry, I just had to! No offense is intended towards the snail. 🤗

I am so glad you can see him growing Etana love, I love the little pink tip at the end of my snaily's shells. Oh bless your little albino snaily feeling all romantic, I think he may have a while to wait though. They are so like people, some like to get romantic as often as possible and some would rather eat and sleep (me lately LOL!)

Whew! 😅 Glad that did not hurt Montezuma's feelings! It's great to check in on this quiet place now and then.

Lol! Well Montezuma is a very positive little character who is not easily hurt. Also he in fact grows even faster than what I last said! He's going to be huge in no time!

Montezuma's growth in a month: First pic taken on 8th of January, second pic taken just now, 8th of February. I like to feed him on my hand. Just so happens that he's getting beef in both pics. He also seems to have been rolling around in the limestone flour. Attachments:
