I guess one has to own a snail to see what special little creatures they are despite being though of as "simple".
Pro: What other animal could I have had sitting on a wet plate with a piece of food with me as I watched a DVD tonight - that is, without the animal even trying to run off the plate?
(Fair enough, some of my more brave snails would have explored the table. But a calm fulica of mine never has so far, haha.)

Lol yes my fulica are very tame. My Tiger snails have escaped the plate in that situation, I don't know if my balteata would as he gets so busy dancing when I take him out of the tank. The small wild caught ones on the other hand do crazy things unless there's really good food on offer, haha.

Ahh they have you well trained then Etana, you can just see them using there eye stalks to communicate in there own sign language, I can just see Big eye's saying to Twirly eyes and the gang " Now guys if we stick to the super fast Star Burst effect of slimming off the plate and going all over the table as fast as possible she will quickly come running with even more nice goodies and the best food to eat and catch us all n put us on the really tasty food. Got the plan guys now lets put it into action!" Zorst

Haha Zorst, that could be it! Con: you clean up the tank by collecting food gone bad, remove poops, do the egg hunt, wash the walls and the decorations....and your biggest snail watches you work with one eye, lets out bubbles with a really loud "PFFFRRRRT" sound, and as soon as you're done, she snails all over everything with her foot as wide as possible, poops on the decoration, and lays eggs. In other words I don't always feel so awfully appreciated But I love them to bits anyway.

Ahh the poops just a present to show how much they like you so of course the bigger the better and the eggs well thats just showing you your really well thought of as they trust you with more of themselves when they hatch . Zorst

Hahahaha Zorst, who knows, perhaps I've always misinterpreted the grumpy inwards faces and all Halonen carried eggs just two days ago, but now they're gone from inside her. I saw her dig a burrow and stay in it the entire day (she almost never digs burrows), but they weren't in there. Is it a pro or a con that you get to play detective trying to find that clutch of 100 before it hatches?

Ahhh the game of hunt the clutch of eggs before it hatches is a good one alright, trust me I have the reminder of the results of that one happily sliming around in a tank. Baby Immac's everywhere lol. Def a good Detective game for sure.

I found the clutch. Clever snailie, she'd reached out as long as possible (which is over 10 cm) from the spot where she seemed to be digging downwards, and put the eggs among the messy remains of the roots of a deceased spider plant. There were easily 100 eggs. No wonder Halonen has been in a bad mood since laying, spending all her time bathing.
Con: You get jealous that there are creatures in your home that can spend whole days bathing.

LOL! Yeah and they don't come out all wrinkly for spending to long in the bath. Lucky you found all those eggs just imagine all the baby slimmers if you hadn't Zorst

Yes that too!
I indeed have enough fulica babies as it is, though someone keeps dropping single eggs around and it seems they're viable! It must be Tauno, he's weird enough to do that.
The babies are awesomely pretty though, everyone who's seen them has said they can't believe they're fulica. I must get around to uploading pics.

Ooo yes please...I would love to see more piccies on here!! Due to some coincidences, I have both a new phone and new (second-hand, but still) laptop & netbook here so I must learn how to upload the pics from the phone. The new phone's camera is worlds better than the old one's, at least! Soon you'll see, I promise!
