A good thing I noticed a couple days ago that my biggest fulica Halonen was pregnant. This morning her lung cavity didn't have a clutch in it anymore. I just did an egg check and after checking all around the tank, I dug up 361 eggs from a single burrow under the bath tub, right against the bottom edge of the small heat mat. 361! I mean, she is huge and full of life, but three hundred sixty one?!
Even if as much as two thirds of those were empty eggs meant to be just baby food, that'd still mean over 100 hatchlings. I put the whole clutch in the freezer, and will feed them back to the snails as a protein and calcium snack. Crazy, crazy mommy. I think it was a month ago, no, less even, when I last dug up a big clutch of hers. I didn't count the eggs though but I think this was the biggest of hers yet. No wonder she was in a foul mood today, after laying those and all.

Lol, bless what snaily. I've never had a batch that big, she's probably exhausted and in need of a snaily sleep. I never thought of feeding eggs back to the snailies. It is a good boost for them.

LOL I can't believe you counted each and every one of them! Well when my hand hit the clutch, I was like "ok, biggest clutch ever, I must know how big!" and counted them as I dug them up.

She has a little bump in her lung cavity that I don't think I saw when she'd just laid. I wonder if that's eggs-to-be! She's also had some very gentle, sensual looking kissing sessions with Taavetti. How horny can a snail be?

I will It is very nice watching them hatch and then learn to use the tiny little foot, they keep falling over all the time at first and their eyes are oversized! I keep thinking out loud, "why ARE hatchlings so cute?" and my bf always responds, "so you'd have exactly that reaction"

! Your bf has got you sussed Etana. I love watching the little one's, I had one bulldozer egg that I had missed a few weeks back and found it the other day when cleaning out a tank. The baby bulldozer was just hatching out its little cream foot was waving around everywhere. I helped it out a bit and put it in its own small tube with food n cuttle fish n a lid on the tub then put it back in the big tank. Well yesterday I found the lid had been knocked off n it took me ages to find the little guy in the new huge tank. It was hidden on a branch of a tree that I had in the tank in amongst the leaves. Its now safely back in its own tub for a couple more weeks until its grown some, but it sure is cute. Zorst

Lovely mental images Zorst I'm going to be away from home a few days, problem is Tauno is full of eggs!! He's only a bit over half the size of Halonen so I don't suppose the clutch is gonna be big, but I worry he lays when I'm away and they hatch. Darn.

I think I will look on You Tube and see if there are any snailie eggs hatching anywhere on there. I understand how you feel Etana love, I hope she hangs on until you return.

Lol, talking of eggs, guess what I found in my tank last night and this little snaily doesn't have a partner. So he must have mated before I got him. I have saved 4 of the eggs to hatch and frozen the rest, naughty Hector.
