Heheheh yes I was laughing about it with my roomie just earlier today. Snails are so weird sometimes. I think they know when I laugh too, I get such looks from the tank sometimes when I laugh out loud at their antics. Thank you very much. I really hoped to capture how sensual the snails looked.

I bet they too laugh at us. Maybe they also wonder why we don't pop our eyes out of our heads, and why we sleep at totally silly hours. Hey, was the problem that you didn't have the camera's manual so you could get the settings right? If you tell me the brand name and model of the camera, I might be able to find a pdf manual for you. Snails are such good subjects for photography that it's a shame if it comes down to the camera not doing what you want.

They must think "Those humans are a funny shape and have eyes that don't move." LOL!! I would love to know how they see us Etana hun.
Thank you for the camera help lovey and you are right, I don't have a manual. I am not sure off hand what make it is but I will have a look and let you know tomorrow. I am keen to get photos of snailies too.

Don't worry if you are busy sweetie, especially at this time of year. What I have given you isn't very useful at all.

My, my, my! These guys should be hibernating, but they decided kissing was a lot more fun. The pics are a bit blurry because I was afraid of disturbing them. Then again Cepaea go into a trance like state and kiss like the world has stopped spinning or something, they hardly noticed me even though I turned over the tank ceiling piece they were hanging from! In this pic you can also observe the curious thing that is the shell lip colour mutation that happens here where I live. It looks like this is a Cepaea hortensis (white lip) and a Cepaea nemoralis (black lip) kissing, but it's actually not. I don't know which they are, though. I only know they're lovely wild-caught Cepaea who are in love.

Oh Etana love, what adorable photos and their shells are just magnificent. I love to watch snaily love and you are right, they are completely oblivious to everything else aren't they love them? Snaily swirls or is it sworls have always fascinated me and I have often wonder why they are designed as they are?

Thank you Jo I think the shell colours serve two purposes - camoflage (though it takes a rather curious background where that bright colours blend in) and that black and yellow are often used by small animals to warn others, "I taste bad", whether or not that's true at all lol. Like a wasp actually is a bad choice for a bird, but there are flies and other creatures who pretend to be wasps with the same colours. The two little snails made love for hours after their kissing session. I've got to check that their tank doesn't have too many gaps for hatchlings to escape through as they're just 1-2 mm. Still a bit weird that I'm getting this in January though.

I think you are right Etana love, I thought it might be something to do with consealment, a warning. They are really so pretty I could ok at the different shells all day. The hermies have pretty shells but of course they can keep changing theirs according to the fashion of the moment LOL!! There are a lot of mimics in the animal world, so I think it is for their protection. I never catch my snailies making love but I bet it is lovely to behold. I have seen them flirting and kissing but not the full blown mating.
