Hah! Found a site where they sell them in super small containers. It was only 3€ for a tube of 20 grams. Seems enough for a small 30 by 30 tank. I'll give it a try and see. That's pretty good. What site is it? It's a dutch site and company. They can arrive any minute now. www.refona.nl/refona/pages/nl.php?lang=NL

As far as i can see, there are no mites anymore. But i'm not sure since they also came back last time. They did eat all my springtails...

I know hunni, they are ghastly looking things. I just want to pour boiling water on them but of course you cannot do that with them being in the tank. I had a friend who kept chickens and she would find the nests of the mites and do just that. Very satisfying.

I saw some mites again, ugh. I flushed them off underneath running water. When i see a lot of them on a snail, i do it like that. It seems like these hypoaspis are rather enjoying a springtail feast than catching these mites. I think i'll order some more next week.

Keep going with the hypoaspis they will clear out the spring tails and once they exhast that food supply move onto the next ie the mites. I also bath my snails all of them from that tank a few times when I see any mites on them and I will totally clean out the tank wash it out with hot water and leave it empty for a few days n put the snails in a sepereate smaller tempory tank. This is just a temp home so that I can get the mites under control. I found this the only way to be really effectie with mites.
I know we should keep some of the old coir in the tank when we change it but if you have a large mite infestation I find it easier on the snails to remove them from the tank, bath them a few times. and put them in a smaller tank. I then repete bathing them again a couple of days later and change the coir again in the tempory tank. I keep them in this tank again for another couple of days and then bath them again. before returning them to their proper tank which has now been totally cleaned out and has completly new coir. In this new coir I add in some old coir from a different tank of snails that are mite free to dd some good microbes. I then add the hypoaspis and return the snails to the proper tank.
This is the way that I have found most effective for controling mites, it means a few baths for the snails but they like these anyway and a bit of tank cleaning for me but its the best way I have found to sort out mites.

I would like to bathe them regularly as well buuuuut. Since a week or so i have baby snails in the big tank. Not the best situation for them but i can't put these baby's with my baby's in the baby snail tank because they don't have mites. Transfering them might risk an infestation of the other tank. They also like to sleep in every hole and crack they can find resulting in me not being able to enter the tank sometimes. They sleep in the openings where my doors slide and here the lid has to be opened. Very annoying! Do you just wash them under some running water? I wash away the mites i see but i guess there are many more + eggs inside that don't get washed away.

Bloody things, I am sorry you are having so much trouble hun. You have nooks and crannies because that is what snailies like but unfortunately it is a breeding ground for other things also. I just give my snailies a gentle shower under warm water which reminds me, they are due for another one soon. Thanks for the updates.

The mites are in place! I placed 2 of those tubes in the tank. This tame i left the mites in the tube as it said on the package. Maybe they live longer this way?

Well the fun part is, i checked the snails a few times and i couldn't find any mites. Don't know where they have gone to. The small ones don't seem to infected either. But they are probably somewhere i guess? They can't just disappear. But anyways, now they have about 100 hypoaspis to fight against
