Do you look for eggs each day please? Hugs Jo xx Not really, though it has to be done a very minimum of once a week, preferably more often, depending somewhat on how many sexually mature snails you have. The good thing about my fulica (including the ones I've sent you) is that they don't like to dig burrows at all except for when they're laying eggs. The whole process also takes them a half a day or so, so it's easy to catch them doing it. So if you see one of yours digging down into the soil, you can be 99% sure that eventually the snailie gets out of there very sleepy and hungry and in a foul mood, and there will be a clutch in the burrow. Also if you see them making love and the tank conditions are good, they will only wait a few days to lay, so from that you'll also know to be on the look.

Oo what nuts do you give them. Tried mine with butternut squash last week. Raw and some slightly cooked, they has a sniff at it then slimes away in disgust. Little tinkers.

Thank you Etana love, I will probably be inspecting them all the time anyway, they will probably think "I wish that stupid woman would go away and leave us alone" LOL!! Oh bless them, I take it they are grumpy when they have laid eggs. I note what you say and will always be vigilant with lovely fresh food when I see this happen.

Oh yes I meant to ask, do they have a sweet tooth (metaphorically speaking that is LOL)?
I thought a bit of chocolate digestive biccy might go down well.

I'm not sure about chocolate n snails but wheat that's in the biccy's sure can harm them . So personally I wouldn't feed it to em.

Yeah, avoid grains, salt and white sugar, they will be more than happy to get some sweet potato or egg after laying and their bath tub filled.

Peanuts went down pretty well. I haven't had them in a while myself so the snails haven't had any either. Aha, they've taken up new habits then. None of my fulica dig burrows for fun at all! They do go into all the flowerpot caves and hiding places that I give them, though. Are yours still stripy, BTW? Quite a few of my fulica of that age have started to grow a nearly pitch black whorl, which on some days displays a green stripe, and sometimes a red stripe. Mommy Halonen has the same thing in her main whorl, sometimes she's very green and sometimes very red! They're all very handsome though and I love them.

They still have a few stripes but are going darker. I would mever have thought to give then peanuts. Do you crush them. I could probably put some in the mix I make them and see if they eat it. I will post pics when my new arrivals get here tomorrow.

I haven't crushed them. Do tell us how it works out. Lol my teenage fulica keep mating like crazy, though sometimes a third one will come and actually rasp their love parts! Yesterday one also covered a mating snail's breathing hole and made raspy movements at his foot. I gently detached the bully snail.

Thanks for your advice ladies, no sweeties or choccies for my snailies. If you give them peanuts, I would think you have to wash the salt off first or do you buy plain peanuts? I will ask Paul to get a sweet potato tomorrow, I would like some grapes too as we all like those here including Mrs Holly Snuggles (bunny) and Merley, Mrs Lacy-Jane and Mr Darcy Cuddle-Hugs our guinea pigs, not to mention the roachies and hermit crabs. You can buy nuts that haven't been salted, mine also like mango and melon and sometimes eat banana. I sometimes put goldfish fish flakes on some cucumber, they really love that. Lol Jo you have quite a few critters at yours.

Thanks for that Etana love, I know where I can get some unsalted nuts so they will be on the list along with the mango and melon. Yes, I have a few animals, not nearly as many as I had during my first marriage but money wasn't so tight then (about the only good thing about it!!) They are all really really loved and are considered part of our family.
