Lol yes, many times they also eat soil next to the food dish instead of the fresh veggies. I feel my efforts are very appreciated LOL. Though I've said it many times that there's very little cleaning up for me to do when there's a big hungry Gaius around, so I really don't mind his weird preferences! Yeah I don't know about Mauno, I've had him three years now (wow time flies) and he has sometimes shown little bulges, but the most he ever does other than fully platonic friendship and care is kiss Maija's shell tip. I've told him many times that that's the wrong end of the snail to kiss! Maija gets excited but then nothing happens. Mauno did lay eggs once, but I guess they were test eggs as they did not hatch. A tiny fulica did try to woo Maija the other day, he was kissing her all over but she just sat there with her eye stalks pointing straight up, like she was thinking "How do I make him go away without being too rude? Erm..." Yes Halonen was very special indeed and a very good mommy, she also knew how to discipline. I still haven't written about her passing last year in the memorial thread, because it felt too weird and painful to lose her the way I did.

I always feel sorry for the little ones who are unlucky in love who just go around with bulges, they all deserve love at some time or another lol. Ha ha, poor Maija trying to be tactful with the amorous baby, what happened, in the end, Etana love? I can understand your still being too tender to talk about Halonen, you will know when the time is right. Some pets are just so special.

Sorry I missed this to reply to earlier, but I have good news, Marrow's worked his magic and the vets assistant has found 3 clutches of eggs hidden away, so Marrow has been very busy in his large cave complete with bath and food dish or love shack lol. Anyway we'll have to wait and see isf the few kept from each clucch actually hatch out and prove to be viable.

I get to see Marrow and his family n friends pretty often which is great and I dont have the added worry of the birds here getting into any of the tanks, they all would happily naturally eat snails so this is why I rehommed the snails. It was safer for them all. It'll be great to see a few more baby Marrows though.
On another note i will be away for a few days as I will be going into hospital for some surgery in the next few days, I'll be home sometime next week but have been warned that I will likely sleep a lot the first week that Im back home. So I will be back but i'll be away for a few days and appoliguies in advance if I'm a bit quiet for the next week or so. I've been on the waiting list for this surgery and got a call today as there was a cancilation.

That is nice that you still get to see Marrow and his family Zorst love. I am sorry you have to go into hospital again, I will be with you in spirit. You probably will sleep a lot, I did on the occasions I had major surgery. Look forward to hearing from you when you feel better.
Lots of love Jo xxx

Ha ha, poor Maija trying to be tactful with the amorous baby, what happened, in the end, Etana love? I have to admit I didn't watch it all the way, as Maija was so patient and the small snail so eager, but I know for a fact they didn't mate. I also saw a similar situation the other day, with the amorous snail ending up highly disappointed and making grumpy faces, poor guy. He was hitting on someone who was already pregnant though! I'll post a weird pic next.

Here's a bit too much of a size difference, I don't think that the baby is even sexually mature yet! The adult is sitting in a bath tub and apparently wants some romantic company in there. Obviously it didn't go very well and he had to move on to someone slightly more receptive, haha.

That is so sad when that happens Etana love and you can see the disappointment on their dear little faces. Oh bless him, that is a lovely pic Etana hunni and I really hope someone responded to him. They say sex in water is very nice, not that I have ever tried it LOL! I hope he didn't hog the water bowl for too long. I have to watch mine for that and always be ready with a top up from temp water.

Click for big version. Don't worry Jo, the bath is big enough for many snails to sit in. Even Gaius the big Tiger snail can't hog it alone. Here's him getting out of the bath. He took so long to wrestle his shell up, I filmed possibly the slowest, most boring pet video in existence, only excluding ones where everyone creature is asleep.

Thanks for that Etana as it is a mad rush at night and I don't have the room for a bigger bowl. Some get in there early and have their fun whilst the others are waking up. A bit like reserving your lounger on the beach by placing a towel on it LOL! It is funny when everyone is trying to get in there and I always watch out in case a baby is underneath and cannot get out. They manage though, they are such bold little things.
