Finally got an extra shelter spot. The one i wanted wasn't available anymore. The company who makes them took them out of their inventory So i got one from the aquarium department. It looks like a wood log. It's made from terracotta so i placed moss on top of it. I left some parts open at the sides where the holes are because it's a nice piece and i don't want to cover it all up. One snail found it's way pretty fast. I placed it so i can look inside to check if they are in there. I also got a nice piece of cork where they can climb on and hang onto. It's a bit more filled up again but me and the snails like it better this way. They seem more active and climbing around in the tank, exploring, sleeping on different places down in the tank. When the tank was more empty they seemed to sleep all the time and 3 out of 4 snails were always on the tank ceiling. I Also really like that green and lush forest look better to watch at. It's a bit more of a fuss to check for eggs this way but yeah... My big snail sleeping in his new log: The tank how it looks now And a closer en better view of the new corner i created for them. All plants are fake by the way. I found some very pretty ones as you can see for very little money and they look totally real.

I've been looking online for nice setups as well but there isn't that much to find. Most terrariums are not decorated for snails. I just keep a local forest in mind en try to get that into a smaller area.

No that's true love, snails are not very often considered when it come to tank decoration and set up but there have been some smashing snaily homes on here. I would really like to buy them a new tank first but they are so expensive.

I would really like to buy them a new tank first but they are so expensive. Hugs Jo xx Mine is made by a friend. He makes terrariums as a hobby for his own pets. He has a lot of lizards. So i asked him about it and made me a 4mm glass terrarium 60x30x35 cm for 80€. Some snail tanks are sad if you ask me. Some people seem to think that a snail only needs some food and some flower pot and thats it. Also a terrarium usually takes i a big place in your house. Mine is in the living room next to the couch. So i also like it to be pretty to look at.

That is good that you have a friend who makes terrariums and that price is good. I agree with you love, I want to get my snailies sorted out very soon. my snailies are in my bedroom because that room is constantly warm even in summer, they are near some warmth. I want mine to be pretty too and I want the snailies to be really happy.

I had to move my tank. I got a problem with ventilation and me and my mom thought it could be because it is in a closet. Maybe the air vent on top doesn't get enough circulation. So now it's on top of the closet. In a way it's better to watch where my snails are at. I can look from all sides now. It's also less dark but they have 2 dark hideouts so they will be fine. I hope the ventilation issue will be gone now. My wood, anything that i placed in it got mold withing days. Today i even noticed my cutterbone was growing mold! Thats just bad! I placed the doors also on small cracks so the air can come in trough it as well. I think i will leave the spraying for a day or 2. The soil is very moist anyways.

The set up i have now in the big tank is super super easy to maintain. I'm really glad i did the low amount of soil in it in stead of the big stack. They have been laying eggs, not in the small mountain i provided for it. They still dig in the soil where they want to. BUT!! Because the soil is not deep, they pick a place where my moss mats are, dig a hole there and use the moss as a cover! So now all i have to do is lift up the moss once a week to check for eggs! This works so much more efficient and less messy. No digging trough the soil and destroying my entire setup. I'm even considering removing the hill i made but the foot of that ferm is quite big and i like them hidden so don't know yet... So big tip for others having cepaea, just a shallow amount of dirt, some moss mats and that's it! Here you see how easy it is to find the eggs now. I found it like that, not burrowed at all.

Ha Ha, I wonder if they know they have made it easy for you to find their eggs bless them, it sounds ideal, you do not have to search anymore. I always wonder if I put enough substrate in for mine as no one has laid eggs for a very long time. I know they are overcrowded but the rightful owner is supposed to be collecting them some time this month and there will be more room then for my four. I am glad the new tank is so much easier for you love, it certainly looks very pretty.

Hugs Jo xx I did read somewhere in my big search for info that snails stop laying eggs if they reach a certain population size at a certain available space. Some build in surviving mechanism or something. The explanation they gave was that in the wild super large groups would result in less food. So maybe thats why? I only have snails in my big tank. They rarely meet each other unless it's in the food dish.

That is what I am hoping for for mine love, when most of them have gone to their rightful owner, there will be more than enough space for the ones remaining and they will be a lot happier. I can well believe that if they are overcrowded the won't breed, which is why they haven't laid any eggs for some time. Obviously the more snails there are the wild the less food is available and whilst I spoil my snailies rotten with food, it is a survival thing they have in their little heads. Everyone is in the food bowl at once and the little ones take ride from their bigger sisters and brothers, it is so cute. Hugs Jo xx
